Does a Sports Background Translate to Career Success?

It’s no secret that we’re huge sports fans here at Sparta Consulting Group. Ask anyone on the team — our athletic backgrounds have undoubtedly contributed to our success. Growing up, sports taught us that in order to win, you need to be the best at what you do — something we strive to do daily here in Hollywood, Florida.

The business world, much like the sports world, can be cutthroat. Nothing is guaranteed. Which is why one of the best lessons any person can learn is that you have to always be on top of your game. Whether this means constantly challenging yourself to improve, always giving 100% to everything you do, or outworking your peers — strong preparation and an excellent mental attitude will set you up for success.

When you put in the work during practice, it translates to success the game. It’s all about making your own luck. One of our favorite sayings at Sparta Consulting Group is “luck is when preparation meets opportunity.” The perfect examples are that last-second goal or that walk-off home run.

To compete in sports, it starts with training, learning the basics, and improving on those necessary skills to be the best at what you do. There will always be someone there competing against you, or ready to undermine you to get where they need to be. What matters most is that you show up ready to play and don’t let one missed point mean the whole game.
